Organo is a system of services designed to revitalize the urban area of Baggio, on the outskirts of Milan.
This project was born with the idea to create shared spaces for the neighborhood community, in which people could collaborate in order to create an urban vegetable garden to which everyone had access.
The intervention took place on multiple levels:
development of the community garden;
enhancement of the community creation;
creation of a communication strategy.
Community Creation.
The community gardens are designed in two different types to be accessible to both adults and children. Both models have a storage space for garden tools that can be used also as benches.
The pattern formed by these modules, seen from above, recreates a majolica shape, a typical element of Baggio.
Through the “Paint your Organ” program, the community has the opportunity to come together in urban gardens to paint the wooden modules.
Stencils and paint are then provided with which the typical majolica patterns of the Baggio district can be recreated.
In this way, the modules will always have the same style and identity, but with different colors depending on the area of the neighborhood.
Communication Strategy.
The entire system of urban gardens is accessible via the web platform, through which users can register for the service as growers, thus being entitled to a space to grow their own vegetables, which can be purchased directly through the site.
For those who only want to buy products without growing them, there will be a special section to access, where they can proceed with the purchase and then collect their products directly from the garden.
