NEW.Locals, the service that aims to include immigrants as valuable assets to society.
New.Locals is my Master’s thesis project that aims to address a very current issue, especially in Italy, which is immigration.
Through my project, I wanted to highlight the need to integrate immigrants, both to give them the opportunity to start a new life in our country, and to exploit their potential and the value they bring with them, both in terms of skills and culture.
The Methodology.
My reviewed version of the Double Diamond Model by the British council, 2005I wanted to develop process and project-based solutions, which were born out of direct collaboration with immigrants and representatives of local institutions through co-design workshops.
The process part aims to promote collaborative systems when dealing with complex problems, while the project part aims to integrate immigrants both when they arrive and years after their arrival.
Two services to integrate the immigrants
OrientMI
OrientaMI it’s a service to profile immigrants and accompany them in addressing their needs through a customized mentor-led process.
This service is accessible directly from the Municipality of Milan website, where users can register as immigrants, providing all personal information (personal data and legal status) and their main needs, or as volunteer mentors, describing the area in which they want to help immigrants.
The system will match immigrants with the most suitable mentors to solve their needs, thus accelerating the preliminary processes of integration into the new society.
NeEW.Locals
NEW.Locals it’s a service that aims to create a cohesive community based on the mutual exchange of knowledge.
By accessing this service, users can offer their skills to other members of the community, which may come from personal passions or the culture of their country of origin. This service is therefore not only aimed at immigrants but at the community as a whole.
By participating in the courses offered by other users, it is possible to leave a review, that will help users to create their own online CV, which can also be consulted by employers through the municipality’s website, so that people have a more chance of being hired in areas related to their skills.
